Liverpool see Luis Suarez as the ‘ideal’ replacement for Mohamed Salah this summer, according to reports. Suarez has been linked with a sensational return to Anfield following a fine first season at Atletico Madrid.

Suarez has scored 19 goals in 26 La Liga matches for Atletico this term.

The Uruguayan turned 34 in January but has shown no sign of slowing up this season.

Suarez scored 82 goals in 133 appearances for Liverpool in a three-and-a-half-year stay at Anfield between 2011 and 2014.

And reports from Spain claim the Reds are interested in the possibility of re-signing the forward.

Mohamed Salah has often been linked with a move away from the Premier League.

The Egyptian has refused to rule out a transfer to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona on more than one occasion.

And Deportes Cuatro claims the uncertainty over Salah’s future has led to Liverpool reigniting interest in Suarez.

The report says the Merseyside club see Suarez as a perfect replacement for Salah, if he were to leave this summer.

David Beckham’s MLS franchise Inter Miami are also named as potential suitors for Suarez.

However, the experienced frontman is said to be happy at Atletico.

Salah is Liverpool’s leading goalscorer this season with 28 goals to his name but drew blank in the Champions League quarter-final exit to Real on Wednesday.

Suarez came close to winning the Premier League with Liverpool in his final season at the club.

And following Jurgen Klopp’s title success last year, the striker could not hide his satisfaction for his former club.

“It’s a pleasure for me to speak with you and the Liverpool fans,” Suarez told the Liverpool website.

“I am so excited as well because I played for a few years there and I have so many friends there.

“For me, this is amazing for the supporters, for the players and for the so many people working inside Liverpool.

“So many people work there and for the last 30 years they didn’t know how it felt for Liverpool to win the Premier League.

“They have a really good chance to enjoy this this time and I think they are so happy and they are excited for the moment that Jordan gets the trophy.

“I think they needed this moment, for the Liverpool supporters, for the Liverpool club, for the people, for the Scouse people. I am so happy for them.”
