Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left red-faced after his main aim for Manchester United backfired against Liverpool.
The Norwegian boss in under pressure at Old Trafford after a string of below-par performances and mediocre results.
Today's clash with Liverpool is crucial for Solskjaer, who wants to be given the time to prove he can lead the Red Devils to glory.
Speaking before the game, Solskjaer said the main thing he wanted to see from his side was a strong start, with United 'dominating' the game from the off.
However, Liverpool found themselves 2-0 up at Old Trafford after only 13 minutes, leaving Solskjaer shellshocked on the touchline.
Speaking before the match, he boldly said: "There's loads of keys, it's a big game. Top of the list is start on the front foot, stamp authority and dominate from start.
"We know if we give them time to build pressure they'll wear you down, so we're going to play as much as we can in their half.
"Then again you have to stop the counter-attack quickly so there's loads of keys.
"The crowd will give us extra 10 per cent energy and it’s up to the players to give them energy.
"Start on the front foot and be ready to win the ball but when we've got the ball keep it well and have rhythm."
Solskjaer's gameplan did not pay off with United being ripped open after just five minutes.
With the home defence nowhere to be seen, Naby Keita was played through on goal to slot beyond David de Gea.
Less than 10 minutes later – it got even worse for the United boss.
