Jan Oblak, not for the first time, is being linked with a move to Manchester United. The Atletico Madrid star has been one of the best goalkeepers in world football in recent years, helping them challenge Barcelona and Real Madrid for La Liga supremacy. However, he could be set to leave at the end of the season – and he’s previously set his sights on a move to Old Trafford, too.

Manchester United decided to stick with De Gea for the current campaign, with Ten Hag adamant the Spain international is still one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

However, doubts over the 31-year-old’s long term future have arisen with the Red Devils star yet to be given a new contract.

Though De Gea’s current deal expires at the end of the season, no renewal has been signed – while the club are also yet to trigger a one-year extension in his existing arrangement.

With that being the case, Oblak’s name has arisen.

The 29-year-old is believed to have signed a new Atletico contract that will run for six years, though no official announcement has been made.

However, it’s also been claimed Oblak is beginning to consider a fresh challenge – with the Premier League reportedly appealing to the 2021 La Liga winner.

It’s unclear what his current stance on a move to United is, with the club very much in transition under Erik ten Hag.

But 90min claimed last year that Oblak was actually eager to make the switch to Old Trafford, at a time where De Gea was being linked with a move away.

It was reported United were eyeing the Atletico star despite also having Dean Henderson at their disposal.

Henderson is currently spending the season on loan at Nottingham Forest, having refused to play second fiddle to De Gea for another 12 months.

But there were said to be doubts at the time over whether the England international has the capability of retaining the No 1 spot in the team.

United, if they did sign Oblak, would be landing one of the best goalkeepers in the whole of world football.

Yet whether they push ahead with their interest at the end of the season remains to be seen.

United have been linked with several Atletico Madrid players in recent months, including Matheus Cunha, Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann.

Cunha emerged as a target back in the summer, though ended up staying at a time where Cristiano Ronaldo was being linked with a sensational La Liga return.

Griezmann was of interest to United back in 2017, when Jose Mourinho ruled the roost.

And links have arisen again with Atletico unlikely to sign the France international from Barcelona on a permanent basis.

Felix, too, was being eyed by United at a time where Ronaldo’s future was up in the air.

But the Red Devils reportedly failed with a huge offer of £114million for the star – and the Portugal international is now settled at Atletico after a couple of years of adjusting.

Meanwhile, speaking recently, Gabriel Agbonlahor expressed a belief De Gea should be moved on by United.

Speaking to Football Insider about the 31-year-old, he said: “I don’t think he deserves that contract.

“I would move on, to be honest. He’ll have a few good games but he’ll make errors.

“The wages they’re talking about, £300,000-a-week, he doesn’t deserve that.

“I would move on and look at a younger option instead.”

De Gea has won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League since joining United back in 2011.
