Nuno’s comments on taking over at Tottenham as Wolves confirm he’s quitting

Nuno Espirito Santo will be available for hire this summer after Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed he will leave at the end of the season.

The Portuguese manager has spent four years at Molineux and will take charge of Wolves one last time as they host Manchester United on Sunday.

The match will be played in front of Wolves fans for the first time this year, meaning Nuno will be given a fitting send off.

The 47-year-old has earned many admirers during his time in the West Midlands after winning the Championship in 2018 and leading his side to the Europa League quarter-finals last season.

As such, Nuno emerged as one of the bookmakers' favourites to take over at Tottenham Hotspur after Jose Mourinho was sacked last month.

But he was tight-lipped about replacing his compatriot – whom he played under as a goalkeeper at Porto – and insisted he would say nothing while under contract at Wolves.

"I have a contract. When I sign a contract there is nothing that I can say more," said Nuno when quizzed on his Spurs links last month.

"It’s my decision to sign a contract and that’s all I want to say. When I make a decision like that there’s no doubt in my mind."

But with the news of his imminent Wolves departure, Nuno's links with Spurs are sure to reach a fever pitch over the coming days and weeks.

The north London club have been turned down by a host of managers – most-recently former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri – and will be desparate to appoint their next head coach as soon as possible.

Nuno only signed a three-year deal with Wolves last September but his premature departure means he will be available this summer without the need to pay compensation.

This is sure to appeal to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who has already been snubbed by Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag.

In the meantime, interim manager Ryan Mason will take charge of Spurs for the trip to Leicester on the final day.
