Nottingham Forest keeping tabs on Everton's bid to sign Andre Ayew

Nottingham Forest keeping tabs on Everton’s bid to sign free agent Andre Ayew as Steve Cooper considers move for the 33-year-old forward after working with him at Swansea

  • Everton still hope to salvage a deal for Ayew as the free agent arrives in London
  • Forest boss Cooper could move for forward in bid to boost his attacking options

Nottingham Forest are monitoring developments as Andre Ayew targets a return to the Premier League after settling his contract with Qatari club Al-Sadd.

Everton have already registered their interest in signing Ayew, whose status as a free agent means he can be signed outside the transfer window.

But it is not a foregone conclusion that he will join them, with at least one other club – namely Forest – keeping watch on the situation.

Sportsmail revealed on Wednesday that Ayew was preparing to fly to the UK to negotiate his next move.

Forest finished the transfer window by signing defender Felipe from Atletico Madrid, goalkeeper Keylor Navas from Paris St Germain and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle, to add to the captures of Chris Wood, Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa earlier in January.

Ayew has played for Swansea, where he worked with Forest boss Steve Cooper, and West Ham in the English top flight.

The 33-year-old is an experienced operator at European level and play all across the attacking line.

One of Cooper’s priorities at the start of the year was to improve his attacking options, and while Wood has since arrived, he is without Taiwo Awoniyi due to injury, while Morgan Gibbs-White jarred his ankle in January’s Carabao Cup clash with Manchester United.

Jesse Lingard has also struggled to find top form due to injury trouble.
