Daniel Sturridge refused to recreate his iconic strike for Liverpool against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge due to his footwear – with Jamie Carragher having to step in.

The former England striker was on punditry duty at Stamford Bridge to watch his former sides in action – having scored an iconic equaliser there in 2018.

Keen not to waste the chance to recreate the strike at the same end of the pitch, presenter Kelly Cates and pundit Karen Carney watched on as Carragher put his plan into motion.

Carragher said: "As soon as he was stood there in the same position I was just Phoenix in the flames."

He went on to tell Sturridge to recreate his own role in the famous goal, with himself playing Xherdan Shaqiri's supporting part.

When realising what Carragher was planning, the former striker said: "If you guys think I'm even going to attempt this… I'm in a pair of boots here!"

Carragher said: "Come on you've got to give it a go! That's what you need on a pitch, a pair of boots!"

Sturridge said: "We're talking footy boots – not Pradas!" Adding when Carragher rolled the ball into his feet: "Not a chance, not a chance, absolutely no chance."

Quick-thinking Carragher then suggested that they swap roles, proceeding to chip the ball just wide of the far post on his weaker left side.

One comment said: "Man said not in these Pradas." A second added: "Daniel Sturridge with the dopest dress sense of any pundit ever."

A third posted: "Sturridge said ur out of ur mind if you think I’m ruining these prada’s." A fourth then chuckled: "Not in my pradas!"

The back-and-forth between the duo ended up being just as entertaining as the fixture, with Bruno Saltor's side failing to find the breakthrough in a 0-0 draw.
