Brazilian superstar Neymar will miss Brazil's final two group stage games at the 2022 World Cup after he was forced off the pitch injured in the Selecao's clash with Serbia on Thursday evening.
The PSG ace was taken off with an ankle injury in Brazil's 2-0 win over Serbia after 79 minutes played.
There were concerns that he could miss the rest of the tournament in Qatar – but now it appears that he will miss the rest of his side's group games, effectively bringing an end to his campaign if Brazil don't make it out of the group.
Rodrigo Lasmar, Brazil's team doctor, gave a concerning update on the star's current condition. He said: "Neymar has suffered a right ankle trauma. Due to the impact that he had with the knee of the Serbia player, we immediately started the treatment when he was on the bench.
"With physiotherapy, we need to wait 24 to 48 hours to have a better assessment. We have not scheduled an MRI, but tomorrow we will have a new assessment. We need to wait now, we can't make any premature comments on his condition. He stayed on the pitch and continued playing for 11 minutes, before he was substituted."
Neymar came off after a heavy tackle from Serbia's Nikola Milenkovic. He came off and appeared emotional on the bench., with images of his ankle looking swollen.
"I didn't see Neymar was injured – the capacity he has to overcome it tricked even me," Brazil boss Tite said.
The Selecao face Switzerland in their second Group G game on Monday.
