  • Neymar is inching closer to agreeing a new four-year extension with PSG
  • The Brazilian has been linked with a return to Spain during his time in Paris
  • However, Neymar is eager to win the Champions League with the French side
  • French reports suggest the 28-year-old is close to signing on until 2026

Talks between Neymar and PSG over a contract extension have been ‘encouraging’ with the Brazilian inching closer to agreeing a new four-year deal to stay in Paris, according to reports in France.

The 28-year-old’s current deal is set to expire in June 2022, with his future constantly surrounded by uncertainty amid rumours of a return to Spain with Real Madrid and Barcelona circling the Brazilian.

Neymar now appears settled in Paris, and is determined to guide the French giants to their first Champions League triumph after falling at the final hurdle last season.

The 28-year-old has regularly been linked with moves to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barca

And according to French outlet Mercato, negotiations between club and player in recent days have been ‘very good’ with ‘encouraging signs’ that the Brazilian will put pen to paper on a deal to keep him at the club until 2026.

Only small final details need to be ironed out, and sporting director Leonardo has made it his priority to renew Neymar’s deal after learning that he is now keen to stay in Paris.

Neymar told Sportsmail last month that a move to the ‘physical’ Premier League does not interest him.

However, Leonardo has been working to strike a deal, with Neymar happy in the French capital

The Brazilian is determined to guide PSG to their first Champions League after missing out

‘I do not get to watch a lot of the Premier League, but I have heard that there’s a lot of physical contact involved in the game.,’ he said. ‘But the French league also has too much physical contact!

‘I’m not motivated by defeats, I’m motivated by the victories that I once conquered in my life and career.

‘I know what it’s like to win a Champions League and I am sure that I will reach, once again, the final with PSG.’

Alongside talks with Neymar, PSG are attempting to tie Kylian Mbappe down to a new deal, too. The French striker’s deal expires in June 2022 but negotiations appear more complicated, with the 22-year-old still undecided on his future.

Mbappe has attracted strong interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool, but PSG hope the prospect of working alongside Neymar to deliver a European title will be enough to entice him to stay.
