Neymar forced off on stretcher after suffering horror ankle injury in PSG win
Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar had to be stretchered off the pitch after suffering what appeared to be a horror ankle injury.
The Brazilian went down with five minutes to go in a clash against St Etienne at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium.
With the score at 2-1, the 29-year-old accidentally stepped on the leg of the sliding Yvann Macon, before twisting his own ankle and falling to the floor in agony.
Neymar clutched his face as he screamed on the floor, before being tended to by physios and taken off on a stretcher.
The 29-year-old was replaced by Junior Dina Ebime before Marquinhos’ brace made it 3-1 to the visitors.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side had gone a goal down after Denis Bouanga’s 23rd minute opener but responded with a goal by captain Marquinhos.
Neymar also scored in the first-half but his effort was overruled by VAR after being deemed off-side.
It was Argentine midfielder Angel Di Maria who eventually put the Parisian giants in front in the 79th minute before Neymar’s injury woe struck.
While the win secured PSG a 14-point cushion atop the Ligue 1 table, they will no doubt be more concerned about one of their star-men being side-lined with what appeared to be a serious injury.
