Newcastle’s new owners worth more than 10 times Man City if takeover goes ahead

Newcastle United's prospective owners are worth more than 10 times that of Manchester City's, and a takeover bid could be back on the table.

Mike Ashley has been trying to sell the club for some time amid a long-standing and bitter feud with the club's fanbase.

A takeover fell through last year when a Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund-backed consortium – led by Amanda Staveley – had a £300m bid rejected by the Premier League despite Ashley's approval.

But the sale is back on after a settlement was found between Saudi Arabia and Qatar over broadcasting rights in the country.

A ban on Premier League broadcaster beIN Sports in the Saudi state had put the brakes on a deal but that has now been lifted, giving them the green light to complete a deal for Newcastle.

And the Magpies are set for a massive cash windfall, the likes which have never been seen before, with the consortium's total wealth dwarfing that of City and Paris Saint-Germain combined.

Sheikh Mansour bought City back in 2008 and has since made them a powerhouse within world football, winning three of the last four Premier League titles alone.

The 50-year-old is part of the Abu Dhabi royal family, as well as being the deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, and has an estimated worth of £23.3bn.

As well as having City under his belt, other clubs include Melbourne City, New York City and Yokohama Marinos, as part of the City Group.

Should PIF's takeover of Newcastle go ahead? Comment below

Newcastle's incoming owners are chaired by Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, basically meaning the Magpies will have the wealth of the entire country behind them.

That means they become worth £320bn – more than 10 times that of City – and fans can expect some extravagant spending to go ahead.

PSG, owned by Qatar Sports Investments, is chaired by Nasser Al-Khelaifi and his worth is £6.8bn whereas Chelsea chief Roman Abramovich is valued at £9.6bn.

However, many have disputed the takeover from an ethical point of view due to the gulf state's shocking human rights record.
