Newcastle told to go all out for ‘amazing’ Mane as Liverpool urged to avoid deal
Newcastle have been urged to go all out to sign Sadio Mane this summer. Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson does not think his old club should re-sign the Senegal forward but reckons the Magpies should be all over a deal.
Mane has had a poor first season at Bayern Munich and could be allowed to leave this summer. He scored just seven goals in an injury-affected campaign in the Bundesliga.
The 31-year-old was unable to fill the huge gap left by Robert Lewandowski’s departure to Barcelona. Liverpool have been linked with a move to take Mane back to Anfield, 12 months after he quit the Premier League.
But Johnson claims Liverpool have now moved on from Mane. He has told Klopp to ignore any urges of bringing Mane back to Merseyside.
Johnson told Neue Online Casinos: “Klopp should not look at Mane again. He is a fantastic player, but he would be coming back to a completely different team to the one that he left.

“He was great for Liverpool at the time, but it does not mean that he would be great for them now. I don’t think they should go for him.”
However, Johnson believes Mane could be perfect for Newcastle. The Magpies are back in the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
Mane has huge experience in the competition and Johnson says it would be a major coup for Eddie Howe. He added: “For Newcastle though, it would be huge. Being in the Champions League will help them attract even better players, and Mane would be an amazing signing.
“They need to make the most of it this year as if they do not finish in the top 4 next year, they will still have Champions League quality players with them. That will therefore help them bounce back.”

The 23/24 home shirt for Liverpool pays homage to the past of the club, as well as collaborator Nike, with a strong 1970s influence. The iconic red, capped with bold white cuffs and collar really does invoke that classic Liverpool FC style while adding a cool retro touch
Newcastle are yet to make any signings this summer but are expected to continue to be smart in the transfer market. Shortly before the end of the season, Howe admitted improvement was needed but insisted they would not spend mega money.
He said: “We’ve got work to do, we’ve got work to do to be ready, we know that. There’s a big task ahead of us, but I’m confident we can do it.
“It won’t be huge numbers – I don’t think it can be. We don’t have the ability to spend the money that people will think we have, so we’re going to have to be smart.
“It will be a small group of players, but hopefully ones that can make the difference.”
