Newcastle were one of 20 clubs interested in a move for Callum Hudson-Odoi but are set to miss out on signing the Chelsea winger, according to reports. Hudson-Odoi is in advanced talks over a loan move to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
The Blues outcast has been in discussions over a temporary exit from Stamford Bridge this season, with new co-owner Todd Boehly pleading with him not to leave permanently. The 22-year-old is aiming to kickstart his career having struggled for game time under Thomas Tuchel.
Injuries limited Hudson-Odoi’s impact last season, while the many attacking arrivals over the past few years have seen the forward drop down the pecking order. A lack of minutes has seen his form dip.
But Hudson-Odoi is now set for regular game time at Bayer Leverkusen. The player’s representatives are in advanced talks over a season-long loan deal, although there is not believed to be any option or obligation for the German club to buy him permanently.

That is according to the Evening Standard, who claim that Hudson-Odoi has turned down Premier League interest this summer. Newcastle and Southampton were both keen on completing a deal.
In addition, Sky Sports report that at least 20 clubs had shown an interest in Hudson-Odoi during the transfer window. The Chelsea academy graduate is represented by family members, including brother Bradley – a former Fulham youth team player who had a successful non-league career – and his father.
Both individuals are now in talks with Bayer Leverkusen. A deal is not yet concluded but there is belief among all parties that an agreement will be resolved soon.

It comes as a particular blow to Newcastle, who have been desperate to sign forwards this summer. They have now been turned down by a couple of Chelsea players.
The Magpies had shown an interest in German striker Timo Werner, but he chose to return to former club RB Leipzig earlier in August. And Hudson-Odoi has now said ‘no’ to a move to Tyneside.
Head coach Eddie Howe is desperate for attacking reinforcements, having only improved in the defensive third this summer. Nick Pope and defender Sven Botman are the club’s only new arrivals, while left-back Matt Targett had his loan from last season made permanent.
Newcastle’s need for a new attacker became more pressing at the weekend, despite an excellent performance in the 3-3 draw with Manchester City. Callum Wilson, who scored the Magpies’ second goal of the game, limped off in the second half and is set for a scan on a potential hamstring injury.
