Newcastle United would only sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on loan if Arsenal continue to pay some of his wages, according to reports. Aubameyang has been linked with a move to St James’ Park after falling out of favour at Arsenal. The 32-year-old has not featured in a match-day squad for the Gunners since being stripped of the captaincy last month.

Aubameyang has committed one too many disciplinary breaches for Mikel Arteta’s liking.

And it appears the former Borussia Dortmund star’s future is away from the Emirates.

Arsenal are open to selling Aubameyang this month if the right offer is received.

But it appears Newcastle prefer to sign the striker on loan rather than a permanent deal.

The Telegraph claims the Toon will wait until later in the window before they look to bring in the likes of Aubameyang on temporary deals.

However, they would not be prepared to pay all of Aubameyang’s £350,000-a-week wages.

Arsenal would therefore have to subsidise some of the player’s salary for the duration of the deal.

Aubameyang has not been able to hit top form for Arsenal across the last two seasons.

He has scored just four Premier League goals in 14 appearances so far this term before being dropped for the visit of Southampton in December.

But Newcastle would be hoping he can make the difference in their fight against relegation.

Gunners boss Arteta said a lack of “respect and commitment” was behind his decision to axe the forward.

“I do not establish my authority by being dictatorial or ruthless,” Arteta said.

“I just ask for one thing: respect and commitment.

“At this level, if I don’t get that, I will pack my bags and go somewhere else because that is the minimum I can ask for.”

Newcastle currently sit 19th in the Premier League table with just 11 points from their 19 matches so far this season.
