Fury wants 'boxing rules, MMA gloves' fight against UFC champ Ngannou

Tyson Fury wants fight against formidable UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou with ‘boxing rules and MMA gloves’, promising ‘Predator’ will be ‘knocked out for his highest purse’

  • Francis Ngannou says he wants the option to box in any new UFC contract
  • He wants to pursue fights against the likes of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua
  • Fury responded by writing: ‘Who wants to see me fight this beast?
  • Heavyweight champion is willing to take contest with boxing rules, MMA gloves

Tyson Fury is game for a fight against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, with some specific rule stipulations.

Crossover bouts are becoming more common and Ngannou recently said any new UFC contract he signs must allow him the ability to take lucrative contests against the likes of Fury and Anthony Joshua.

It seems the ‘Gypsy King’ has picked up on those comments from the Cameroon native and is up for the challenge.

Tyson Fury has expressed an interest in a boxing champion vs UFC champion fight

He tweeted: ‘Who would like to see me fight this beast boxing rules @ufc gloves?’

Ngannou then responded: ‘How about MMA rules with boxing gloves? I can do you that favor.

To which Fury replied: ‘You want to come in to my world calling me & Wilder out to a boxing match. What I can guarantee is you would be knocked out & also paid your highest purse to be so! So have a think.’

‘After I handle business on Jan. 22,’ Ngannou retorted, ‘I’ll fight you under any special rule set you want. In a ring, an octagon or a phone booth.’

Ngannou is known primarily as a stand-up fighter anyway and boasts one-punch, devastating power in his fists.

He clearly sees the potential in a heavyweight champion vs heavyweight champion encounter and recently told TMZ: ‘It’s always been down the line. This is something I’m not taking my eyes off of.

‘It’s gonna happen, either way. Even if, when the UFC and I finalise a deal, the boxing part has to be into it because I can’t see myself retire without boxing.

‘Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder. I would like to test myself to that level. It’s not the same sport, although I’m the champion, I’m in the top in this division.’

Conor McGregor was given special dispensation back in 2017 to face Floyd Mayweather in what remains the most lucrative boxing match in history.

But UFC president Dana White has since closed the door for the organisation’s fighters looking to cash in elsewhere.

The Cameroon native boasts immense power and wants to fight the best of the best

Jake Paul’s recent opponents Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley had both left the UFC and it seems like there is no intention to let big stars box again.

Fury has previously said he would never actually compete in MMA as his skillset is purely boxing based.

He told talkSPORT: ‘I’ve got no real interest in grappling up and down on the floor and all that sort of stuff.

‘I’m a stand-up fighting man, I don’t wrestle up and down and grab each other’s arms and sit on each other and all that.

Fury is not willing to grapple or wrestle but would accept a bout with UFC gloves on

‘I’ve no interest in all that stuff – I like to stand up and fight so would I ever compete as an MMA fighter? Hell no!

‘Would I compete with small gloves on in a cage in a fight? Yes. But no gripping and grappling.

‘The noble art of standing up and what men have been doing for centuries. I don’t see any noble science in wrestling up and down the floor.’
