Newcastle manager Steve Bruce reveals he’s received "vile death threats"

Steve Bruce has revealed he's suffered “vile death threats” from Newcastle fans.

The head coach has been subject of a sustained abuse from some fans who want him out of his job at St James' Park.

Bruce said: “Social media is a really powerful weapon. The abuse that I’ve had – death threats and all this sort of stuff. It’s obscene & totally ridiculous. There are vulnerable people out there & it’s vile, some of it. It needs to stop.”

Bruce has joined calls for social media companies to police their site better and stop the abuse.

Referee Mke Dean has also been subjected to death threats this week after he sent of West Ham's Tomas Soucek against Fulham, while a swath of Premier League players have been inundated with racist abuse on social media.
