Newcastle have made another approach for Bayer Leverkusen’s French winger Moussa Diaby

Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen are 12th in the Bundesliga, just four points above the bottom three ahead of the resumption of their season following the World Cup at Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday.

Subsequently they are determined to keep hold of Diaby, 23, one of their key players whose contract does not expire until 2025, at least until the end of the season.

However, they are also hoping to raise money from sales so the prospect of them having to cash in on one of their more valuable assets if they are unable to offload some of their unwanted players cannot be entirely ruled out with two weeks of the window remaining, MailOnline understands.

Left-footer Diaby, who can play on both wings, has been with Leverkusen since joining them from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.

He has made 146 appearances for the German side, scoring 43 goals, setting up a further 41 and also won his eight senior French caps during his time with Leverkusen.

He’s won eight caps for France so far across his career – Arsenal also have him on their radar
