Newcastle have held positive talks with Joe Willock and a deal for the Arsenal midfielder should be agreed today.
The Magpies have been chasing the 21-year-old all summer after he impressed during his loan spell in the second half of last season, when he scored in seven consecutive Premier League games.
Now there appears to have been a breakthrough, with very positive talks held between Newcastle, Willock and his father on Wednesday night – and a move could be finalised as soon as this evening.

Mikel Arteta looks set to allow the 21-year-old academy product to leave Arsenal this summer
‘What he’s done is put himself in a really strong position where he can choose a little bit with more options of what his future could look like,’ said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on Thursday.
‘This is what we’re trying to define right now.’
Willock was left out of the Arsenal squad for their pre-season friendly against Tottenham on Sunday.
After the game, Arteta was asked about Willock’s omission and said: ‘We will explain the reasons when we can.’
Willock is poised to leave Arsenal on a permanent basis as he looks to play regular football
Willock is set to become Newcastle’s first major signing of the summer as Steve Bruce closes in on a deal that he has been pursuing for some time.
A product of Arsenal’s academy, who joined at the age of four, Willock has made 78 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 11 goals.
The 21-year-old isn’t guaranteed regular game time at Arsenal and will relish the chance to feature prominently for Newcastle if the deal goes ahead.
