Newcastle enter Eriksen race, chase Saint-Maximin’s ex-teammate and Benfica ace
Newcastle United are the latest Premier League club to be linked with former Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen, according to reports.
The Danish midfielder has not played in a professional game since suffering a cardiac arrest during his country's Euro 2020 match against Finland last summer but has been linked with several English clubs this month.
It comes amid reports that the Magpies have asked for Allan Saint-Maximin's help in persuading his ex-teammate Alassane Plea to move to St James' Park.
And reports have also suggested Benfica star Darwin Nunez has become the club's "priority" signing this month.
Daily Star Sport has taken a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer news below.
Eriksen move
Christian Eriksen could be set for a big-money move to Newcastle, it is claimed.
The midfielder has now been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Brentford said to have already offered him a six-month deal.
The Times reports that Newcastle are among a number of English clubs, also said to include Leicester City, who have shown interest in the Denmark international.
Eriksen would be available for a free transfer and could add much-needed experience to Eddie Howe's squad.

Saint-Maximin help sought
Newcastle have asked Allan Saint-Maximin for help in their efforts to sign Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Plea, it has been claimed.
Plea and Saint-Maximin played together at Nice during the 2017/18 season, with French newspaper L'Equipe claiming the pair have remained friends since.
The report adds that Newcastle have asked their winger to "provide information" on the striker ahead of a potential move.
Plea could be available this month, with his contract in Germany set to expire at the end of next season.

Nunez "priority"
Benfica star Darwin Nunez is "on top of the list" of Newcastle's January transfer targets, according to reports.
Portuguese newspaper Record claims the forward is Newcastle's "priority" target as they aim to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.
The report adds that it will take a bid of at least £50million to secure the player's signature, and that the signing of Chris Wood will not stop the club from pursuing the player.
