New Footsie Index – plus all the things Scottish fans wish they could delete
Welcome to another edition of The Engine Room with Adam Miller from the Old Firm Facts podcast.
As always, we've got the latest Footsie Index revealing the best and the worst in Scottish football this week.
And we've caught up with Kelty Hearts star Joe Cardle to quiz him about everything cars. Buying a car? Don’t just nail it, cinch it cinch.co.uk
Now let's kick off the Footsie Index…
Scott Brown has brought to Aberdeen not just his commanding midfield presence, but also his love of winding up Andy Halliday and Alfredo Morelos.
Having laughed as Morelos saw red against Celtic in 2019, he mimicked the Rangers striker’s celebration after scoring at Ibrox last week. Having laughed as Halliday saw red against Celtic in 2019, he howled again as the Hearts midfielder was dismissed last weekend.
Most 36-year-old footballers are winding down. Scott Brown is not most 36-year-old footballers.
James Tavernier impressed as Rangers beat Motherwell 6-1 at Fir Park, but his limelight was comprehensively stolen by Fashion Sakala.
Days before handing over a Rangers shirt to his country’s president, the Zambian forward announced himself with a hat-trick, and was duly serenaded by a song so infectious Facebook Maws will claim it’s a hoax invented by Bill Gates.
The 24-year-old’s post-match interview was endearingly wholesome, and demonstrated a level of enthusiasm usually reserved for Celtic fans discussing Rangers penalties.
Your team are protecting a one-goal advantage, deep into injury time. Nerves are jangling. Nails are bitten. And then, with 97 minutes gone, the whistle blows. FINALLY.
A vital three points away from home. This one’s going to feel good on the bus home. For Hamilton Accies fans, however, the whistle they celebrated at Cappielow last weekend turned out to be for a Morton free kick. A free kick from which they scored with the game’s final touch. Still, four seconds of joy.
2021 has been a memorable year for Zander Clark. He’s lifted two trophies, contributed a dramatic assist at Ibrox and won wide acclaim for his performances in St Johnstone’s goal, all while sporting a beard that on a non-footballer would smell of citrusy IPA and jalapeño pretzel pieces.
And his reward for all that? Instead of enjoying the break he so richly deserves, Clark has been ordered to sit on a bench and watch Moldova. You can’t win.

Scottish football glossary: ‘Deleting’
There is much that the average Scottish football fan wishes they could delete. Injury time against England in 2017, for instance.
With the advent of Twitter, deleting has become an integral part of our game. Maybe you’re the politician who claimed Steven Gerrard wouldn’t be joining Rangers. Maybe you’re a broadcaster advertising a cinch Premiership match with an image featuring players who no longer play in the cinch Premiership.
You might even be one of the many Celtic fans sheepishly reassessing their past tweets about Anthony Ralston. Seemingly destined to be remembered only for laughing at Neymar back in 2017, he’s become a key player under Ange Postecoglou and was rewarded this week with a new contract.
Fingers crossed, your next deleted tweet will come next December when you realise the Jacob Brown you questioned in November 2021 is the same Jacob Brown with his hands on the World Cup…
