Neil Warnock mocks his own retirement with cheeky Prime Minister post

Neil Warnock has teased a return from retirement to take over not at a club in need, but as Prime Minister.

The legendary football manager, 73, called it a day in April after 42 years and the most games taken charge of in English history. Just three months later, though, he's joked his experience could be needed elsewhere – namely 10 Downing Street.

Following the news Boris Johnson had resigned as PM this morning (July 7), Warnock tweeted a photoshopped image announcing him as the nation's new leader with the caption: "BREAKING NEWS!"

The mocked-up picture, which read "Warnock to step up, Sharon gives Neil permission for one last job", went down a storm on social media. And footie fans haven't been able to stop poking fun at the Tory government all day.

One joked the cabinet is "as empty at Tottenham's" following 51 resignations in 48 hours, while another dubbed the soon-to-be departing Johnson the "Ralf Rangnick of politics".

Warnock isn't the only manager to be put forward for the role. Chelsea's Twitter admin proposed boss Thomas Tuchel, posting "it's time" alongside a photo of a fan banner which read "Tuchel for PM".

And Gary Lineker suggested Sam Allardyce, another man who knows the ins and outs of dealing with a unit in crisis, should be appointed. He wrote: "He’s going. Give it to Big Sam for the rest of the season."

Warnock would without a doubt be the funniest option, though. He's cracked fans up since creating his social media account post-retirement.
