Mykhaylo Mudryk’s Chelsea career reaches new low with Brentford taunts
Mykhaylo Mudryk was brutally taunted by the travelling Brentford supporters at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, who savagely mocked his failed transfer to the Gtech Community Stadium as he warmed the Chelsea bench. The former Shakhtar Donetsk attacker came close to joining the Bees prior to signing for the Blues for an eye-watering fee of £88.5million in January and on the basis of the start he has made to life with Chelsea, Brentford fans couldn’t resist the chance to poke fun at the Ukrainian.
As Mudryk warmed up on the sidelines, chants of “You should have signed for the big club,” bellowed out from the away end shortly before the visitors took the lead.
The 22-year-old is yet to score in English football in 12 appearances and now he is struggling for minutes under caretaker boss Frank Lampard.
Mudryk was Arsenal’s January transfer priority but Shakhtar Donetsk continued to hold firm despite two respectable bids from the Gunners.
The Ukrainian giants eventually shook hands on a record-breaking sale after Chelsea delegates flew to Poland to finalise the transfer during face-to-face talks.

But before Arsenal and Chelsea battled it out for Mudryk’s signature, Brentford were in concrete negotiations with Shakhtar despite failing to get a deal over the line.
The Bees made a firm bid for Mudryk and reopened talks last summer before the winger eventually stayed put in Ukraine for another six months.
Everton also made a £30m bid to sign the highly-rated attacker last summer but once again, Shakhtar held firm and eventually got their reward when Chelsea placed mega money on the table in the winter transfer window.
Shakhtar director of football Darijo Srna was at the centre of talks regarding the future of Mudryk and he recently conceded that the player was not happy in west London.

“Unfortunately, at Chelsea now he’s not in a good mood, Mykhaylo as well, but he has all the qualities to be one of the best players in the Premier League in the next couple of years,” Srna said.
The former Croatian international full-back jokingly added: “It’s no problem, we will buy him back after the war. We will buy him back after the war.”
Mudryk started Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton and played the full 90 minutes before being dropped back to the bench.
Prior to that he has been in and out of Chelsea’s side since January and has spent the majority of his time sat on the bench making cameo appearances in the second half.
Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter previously indicated that Mudryk was the board’s signing and not his and that was reflected in his inconsistent usage of the player within his underperforming side.
Mudryk started the last game of the Potter era – the 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa – spurning two glorious first-half chances to open his Chelsea account.
Todd Boehly remains confident that Mudryk will justify his big-money contract over time but it has hardly been an ideal start for the Ukrainian international at Stamford Bridge.
Given Chelsea currently have nothing left to play for and that Lampard’s side are struggling for goals, it’s hard to understand exactly why Mudryk isn’t being given a consistent run of matches.
