West Ham boss David Moyes shut down a reporter who used his nickname in a press conference after the Hammers were beaten by Everton. Moyes appeared irked after a reporter addressed the former Manchester United manager as ‘Moyesy’.

Moyes’ side suffered a fifth Premier League defeat of the season at Everton, another of the Scot’s previous clubs. Toffees forward Neal Maupay scored the only goal.

In his post-match press conference, Moyes snapped back at a journalist who addressed him by his nickname. The reporter said: “Moyesy, what was your assessment of the-”

The West Ham manager started laughing before adding: “F****** hell, I don’t think we’re that close!”

Other journalists in the room were heard laughing before Moyes finished cackling. He then started answering the questions, saying: “I don’t think we played well…”

West Ham have endured a difficult start to the season, picking up just four points from their seven matches. The east Londoners head into the September international break 18th in the Premier League.

Moyes is bedding in a couple of new signings and absolved the likes of Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Pacqueta from criticism after the Everton defeat. Instead, he tore into his usually reliable stars who are “down on their level” this season and let him down at Goodison Park.

“We had a game on Thursday night, we have to take that into consideration. We’re trying to put new players in, who we haven’t found out a lot about yet,” Moyes told Sky Sports.

“Today we found out little bits, but it was mainly about the players I already know about. They were the ones, in the main, who have let me down at different times with poor play overall.

“The players who have played last year are down on their level. We’ve shown signs that we were getting back to it (form) but I didn’t think we did today.

“We couldn’t put two or three passes together. When we got into the final third it was almost always the wrong decision. The last 20 minutes, we had some chances to – at worst – get an equaliser. If you really analyse the end of it, we’ve probably missed a few big chances.”
