Moyes calls on West Ham fans to make themselves heard in semi-final

David Moyes calls on West Ham fans to make themselves heard and show ‘what we’ve got’ in Europa League semi-final first leg… after admitting he was shocked by 30,000 Eintracht Frankfurt supporters taking over the Nou Camp in shock win at Barcelona

David Moyes says it’s time for West Ham fans to show what they’ve got, after admitting he was astonished to hear how Eintracht Frankfurt took 30,000 supporters to Barcelona.

Frankfurt’s fantastic support helped them get through the Europa League quarter finals after they descended on the Nou Camp, buying thousands of tickets in the home end.

Their allocation in Thursday’s semi-final first leg is around 3,000 and Moyes wants West Ham’s fans to ensure that the London Stadium is very much a fortress.

The Scot was astonished to hear how Eintracht Frankfurt took 30,000 supporters to Barcelona

‘It’s really special that two teams with a history – maybe not a recent history – are back together in Europe,’ Moyes said. ‘When I heard they took 30,000 to Barcelona, I thought, ‘Wow’.

‘West Ham, we’ve now got a really good stadium, a fantastic crowd, and I hope we can show what we’ve got as well.

‘When you become a manager, one of the biggest things is you want to make sure the supporters are getting a decent level of football. You want to give them something back. If we can get the London Stadium the way it was for Sevilla, it will take some doing.’

West Ham’s 2-0 win over Sevilla in the last-16 second leg produced the best atmosphere the stadium has seen since the move from Upton Park.

One problem for Moyes heading into this clash with Frankfurt is how they’ve got only one fit central defender – Craig Dawson. Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma and Issa Diop are all set to be sidelined.

‘Our home form has been pretty good,’ Moyes added. ‘Like beating Liverpool at home. Like beating Tottenham. Like beating Chelsea.

‘The nervous side of it is important. It’s good to be important. It makes you realise the level of the game. But you want the players to play with confidence.

‘Nerves are important for the players to understand the level we’re at. We’re in a really good place and I think we’re worthy of it.’
