Most pleasant Man Utd icon annoyed Roy Keane with hotel habit during World Cup
Roy Keane has revealed his former Manchester United and Ireland team-mate Denis Irwin annoyed him at the 1994 World Cup with his love of golf.
Keane became good friends with his fellow countryman Irwin – the Cork natives used to room together for United and when they were away on international duty. But as Sky Sports viewers know all too well, it doesn't take a lot to get under the pundit's skin.
And Irwin's hotel antics in the US rubbed him up the wrong way. Speaking on Sky Bet's The World Cup Meet-Up, Keane recalled: "I used to room with Denis Irwin. Denis was my roommate with Ireland and obviously at United.

"I don't think players room together anymore. Players have their own rooms now but back then you did. Denis used to annoy me quite a bit."
Gary Neville interrupted to state: "I'll just give you some context, Denis Irwin is the nicest, most pleasant, placid bloke you'll ever meet in your life."
Keane continued: "I didn't say he wasn't that. He is all that, but he was annoying. He used to love the golf. He used to always watch the golf. There always seemed to be a golf tournament on.

"There were no iPads and all that but I'll forgive him for that. Denis was mad for the golf, but the again good company of course. I take it all back Denis."
While Irwin's golf watching put Keane in a bad mood, the tournament ended up being his favourite World Cup thanks to the impressive water parks in the States.
He added: "The highlight of my career in terms of World Cups was ’94. But that was going to the water parks in Florida in between the games. It was brilliant. Wet ‘n Wild!
"You know when you’d get days off… we’d get plenty with Ireland. We’d go straight down to the water park. Brilliant, honestly. Wet ‘n Wild, I’d recommend it."
