The offensive coach for the Tennessee Titans was arrested on Friday morning following his team's NFL win over the Green Bay Packers.

Todd Downing had helped oversee a terrific 27-17 win in Wisconsin, as the Titans went 7-3 for the season. But their victory was soon soured when it emerged Downing, 42, had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and speeding several hours later.

On Twitter, NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport shared Downing's mugshot from his arrest, and wrote: "OC Todd Downing was arrested for DUI and speeding last night, the Williamson County Sheriff confirmed. Downing posted bond at nearly 7 am."

According to ESPN, the NFL has contacted the Titans regarding Downing to remind them at all club personnel are liable to disciplinary measures when a violation is determined to have been committed. The Titans themselves have released a statement.

"We are aware of the reports regarding Todd Downing and are in the process of gathering additional information," it read. Titans coach Mike Vrabel said on Friday that he had spoken with Downing as well as NFL officials.

Emphasising he was restricted on what he said amid an ongoing legal process, Vrabel said: "I will say however that we all have a great responsibility as members of this community, as coaches, players of this organization, as fathers and husbands and teammates to make great decisions and we understand that."

The vastly-experienced coach has previously had stints with the Minnesota Vikings, St Louis Rams, Detroit Vikings, Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders. He then had a second stint with the Vikings before becoming the tight ends coach in Tennessee.

This season marks his 20th as a coach in the NFL. Previously, his playing career had consisted of a three-year stint with the Minnesota Maulers, a semi-pro football team, from 2000 to 2002.
