Mo Salah’s Liverpool contract demands would earn him more than Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool might have to make Mohamed Salah the best paid player in the Premier League if he is to extend his current contract beyond the summer of 2023.

The 29-year-old has made his name as one of the best players on the planet since moving to Anfield from Roma back in 2017, scoring 102 goals across 153 appearances in all competitions.

The Egyptian icon also played a starring role in their recent Champions League and Premier League triumphs, scoring 31 goals last season despite their mixed form under Jurgen Klopp.

With the club desperate to tie down their star forward before he enters the final year of his deal in the summer, they have reportedly been met with some rather lofty demands.

According to The Telegraph, Salah wants to re-sign on terms in the region of £400,000-a-week.

Despite many, including club legend Ian Rush and manager Klopp, calling him the best player in the world, that figure could blow their current wage structure out of the water.

Reports suggest that Virgil van Dijk is currently the best-paid player at the club with £220k-a-week, which is more than Salah who is said to be keen on doubling his pay packet.

Radio Times reports that none of the top-10 best paid players in the league are at Liverpool, with Anthony Martial, Thomas Partey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all on £250k.

They add that both Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante are on £290k, with Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish getting a tad more at £300,000-a-week for Manchester City.

David de Gea is Manchester United's longest serving player and said to be on £375,000-a-week, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Kevin De Bruyne topping the list with £385,000 every seven days.

A number of other reports put Ronaldo's weekly salary at that figure, after it was reported he had dropped the demands he had given Manchester City before choosing his former club.

Klopp raised eyebrows earlier in the season by saying that he had nothing to do with the contract talks between Salah and the club, despite his importance to the team.

"There's nothing really to say, especially from me as I am not involved," said Klopp.

"The only thing I'm really interested in is how Mo looks, how sharp and committed he is at the moment, and that's absolutely spot on.

"He looks really good. There is nothing else to say."
