Alexander Mitrovic, Willian, and Marco Silva were all given red cards as Fulham completely lost their heads against Manchester United.

The Serbian hitman had opened the scoring against the Red Devils to give the Cottagers a deserved lead against Erik ten Hag's side. However, things took a huge turn when Willian blocked a Jadon Sancho effort on the goal-line with his hand.

After referee Chris Kavanagh was told to pay a visit to the VAR monitor, the Fulham boss said something to him before he got to the monitor. He had not even looked at a replay, before Silva was given a red card and sent down the tunnel.

After a brief look at the monitor, he began strutting towards the former Chelsea winger while dipping into his back pocket. It was at that moment, Mitrovic blocked his path and began shouting in his face.

Almost immediately, Kavanagh stopped in his tracks, pulled out his red card, and sent the former Newcastle United forward for an early shower, before re-focusing his attention to Willian, who met the same fate for handballing the ball on the goal-line. Bruno Fernandes emphatically dispatched the resulting penalty to level the match and leave Fulham fans fearing the worst.

But before those travelling fans even had an opportunity to process what had happened, their side were behind in the tie. Bayern Munich loanee flicked in a clever pass from Luke Shaw to put United on their way to Wembley. It was a chastening few minutes for the West Londoners who were still leading the Red Devils a matter of minutes earlier.

Silva could be seen pacing up and down in the tunnel moments after he was sent off by the referee. It was a cruel chain of events for the West Londoners who looked to be in control of the quarter-final.

They created the better chances and restricted United to half chances throughout the contest. But you cannot afford to switch off, make mistakes, or lose your cool, and Fulham unfortunately did all three.

To add insult to injury, Fred found Fernandes with a very clever pass and the Portuguese maestro smashed a third goal past Leno. United will face Brighton and Hove Albion in the semi-final at Wembley.
