Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta saw his side advance to the quarter-finals for the Carabao Cup following a 2-0 win over Leeds United but was left sweating on the fitness of Ben White. The £50million summer signing was withdrawn early in the second half.
White’s replacement, Calum Chambers, broke the deadlock just 23 seconds after entering the fray before Eddie Nketiah killed off any hopes of a Leeds comeback as the Gunners extended their unbeaten run to eight games.
But the evening was soured by the sight of White limping off the field.

The former Brighton defender has quickly emerged as a pivotal performer under Arteta this term since his big-money arrival in the summer, and losing him for a sustained period would be a huge blow for Arsenal.
Arteta gave a positive update on White when discussing the 23-year-old after the game last night – but stopped short of affirming his status ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.
“No. There is a bug going on,” Arteta explained after the match. “We lost Pablo [Mari] as well today who wasn’t feeling great and Ben had it as well for the last day or two. He wasn’t feeling great so we decided to take him off.”
As well as White, there are concerns over Kieran Tierney and Martin Odegaard, with both previously rated as doubtful for the Leicester clash.
But Arteta seemed to hint the pair could be in a position to feature when Arsenal travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
“They were both out with two different injuries,” Arteta added. “They tried yesterday but they didn’t feel great. They wanted to be involved but they weren’t good enough on the day. Hopefully, they can be better and be available against Leicester.”
By advancing to the last eight of the League Cup, the Gunners have continued their recent revival under Arteta.

The Spaniard and his side have avoided the taste of defeat ever since their 5-0 mauling at the hands of Manchester City at the end of August.
Their recent run of form has defied a number of Arteta’s critics.
Arsenal’s now seem to be in good health following an abject start to the campaign, with the Londoners currently just three points off fourth spot and with a realistic crack at claiming a second domestic trophy since Arteta’s arrival following the 2019/20 FA Cup triumph in the Spaniard’s debut season.
And the Gunners look well equipped to continue their recent resurgence if they can get their key trio fit and ready for this weekend’s clash with Brendan Rodger’s men.
