Mason Greenwood could walk away from Manchester United for nothing, barely two years after he was valued at around £134m.
An official statement from the club confirmed the former England international will depart Old Trafford, just over six months since charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour were dropped.
After the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped the charges as a result of the "withdrawal of key witnesses" and what it said was "new material that came to light," United carried out their own internal investigation on the matter and decided it was best for him to walk away from the club.
It’s now possible Greenwood could leave the club for free, not long after his value comfortably surpassed nine figures.

Before he was arrested in October 2022, he was reportedly valued at around £134m. At the time, he was considered one of the best prospects to come from the United academy and one of the finest talents in England.
He also boasted an impressive record of 35 goals in 129 appearances for the club. Now it has been confirmed that he will not play for the club again, Greenwood will be departing Old Trafford one way or another.
Greenwood has not played for the Premier League giants since a 1-0 win over West Ham United in January 2022. The 21-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Italy, with Serie A giants Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Roma all being touted as interested parties.
Turkey has also been purported as a potential destination, while the all-spending Saudi Pro League could also make a move for the forward. As things stand, Greenwood still has two years left on his deal at United.

Throughout the process, Greenwood has been receiving £75,000 per week from the Red Devils, despite being made unavailable to play. His contract currently run until the summer of 2025, when he would be able to leave the club for nothing.
However, his own statement suggests he wants to remain in the sport. He wrote: "I intend to be a better footballer, but most importantly a good father, a better person, and to use my talents in a positive way on and off the pitch."
