Mason Greenwood has been named in Manchester United's retained list in a boost to the forward's hopes of a long-term future at Old Trafford.

It was reported this week that Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is happy for Greenwood to return to his squad after charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour were dropped in February.

Club bosses have been conducting their own investigation into the circumstances which resulted in his arrest in January 2022 after a woman made a series of allegations against him. Greenwood was suspended by the club and has not played nor trained with his team-mates since his arrest.

However, he could be part of Ten Hag's squad next season after featuring in the club's retained list among the roster of players under the age of 24. The retained list statement on the club website made no other reference to Greenwood, who could still be sold or loaned out this summer.

United said "discussions remain open" with David de Gea over a new contract. The long-serving goalkeeper's deal is on the verge of expiring.

The Manchester Evening News report that a contract is "roughly in place" but that it is yet to be signed as United "explore their options".

Meanwhile, Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop have triggered extensions. News deals are also being "processed" for Rhys Bennett and Ethan Laird, while under-21 coach Tom Huddlestone is expected to stay on after positive talks with the club.

United also said they have offered a new deal to forward Mateo Mejia.

Young pair Ethan Galbraith and Di’Shon Bernard, who both spent time out on loan last season, have left the club.

In news that had already been confirmed, defenders Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are leaving the club. Jones departs after 12 years and 229 appearances for the club while Tuanzebe leaves having captained United at every level, including the first team when he donned the armband for a League Cup tie against Rochdale.
