Manchester United have been linked with Rennes star Eduardo Camavinga in recent days. And that’s a year after it was claimed the club were willing to spend £25million on securing his signature. That certainly seems more realistic amid claims the Ligue 1 side want £100m to let their prized asset go.
Manchester United are reportedly set to meet with Camavinga’s camp this week.
They realise the teenager’s preference is a move to Paris Saint-Germain but, despite that, will attempt to entice him to Old Trafford instead.
United missed out on Jude Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund 12 months ago and believe Camavinga would be a perfect alternative.
They’re also admirers of the 18-year-old for his immense potential, with the France international set to get better and better as the years go on.
And, while that the case, it’s time to throw things back to a year ago.
The Metro reported that United were keen to sign Camavinga and, at the time, were ahead of Real Madrid in the race to secure the youngster’s signature.

It was claimed club scout Marcel Bout has made a personal check on the teenager earlier on in the season, and was left impressed by what he saw.
And it was also stated that United were willing to pay £25m to land Camavinga, who had just two years of his contract left to run at the time.
After another year in the Rennes first team, there are now suggestions United may have to spend as much as £100m on landing the Ligue 1 trickster.
But that’s unlikely to happen, especially with United having several other areas of their squad they’d rather address.
Their priority is concluding a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, who is primed to leave the Westfalenstadion behind.

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is also on their wishlist, 10 years after Sir Alex Ferguson had first attempted to land the World Cup winner.
And they’d also like to recruit Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, too.
Speaking recently, Eurosport’s Dean Jones told The Football Terrace that United were unlikely to snap up Camavinga – with the player likely to remain in France instead.
“You’re telling me after everything that’s gone on with Jadon Sancho they’re then on the side going to pay £100million on a deal that hasn’t been talked about until now,” he told The Football Terrace.
“I think that price, for a player who’s got just a year left on his contract, how is that going to be a thing?
“Obviously look, Camavinga is one of the best teenage talents in world football.
“United would have been scouting him for a while. They were upset they didn’t get Jude Bellingham, they were convinced that was going to happen.
“This is all about that next gen thing. Any club of United’s size are looking at these players all the time, they have to be kept in the loop on what is happening, particularly when it comes to a point when he’s going to be leaving.
“I checked with a couple of people in France and they think it’s far more likely he stays in France, for now.
“They don’t think him joining Manchester United seems like the most likely outcome from here.”
The 18-year-old’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, tipped Camavinga for the very top when speaking in February.
“At the moment, he’s a Rennes player,” Barnett told Goal.
“He likes Rennes and, at the moment, we haven´t really taken to other clubs. It isn’t our position.
“Let’s see what happens later on, but he’s doing well in Rennes and that’s fine. Being the best midfielder in the world, that’s how I see his future, [with] a lot of medals and a lot of trophies.
“[Madrid are] a great club, a great club to play for.
“Eduardo will have a choice of a lot of clubs if Rennes decides to release him. They will be one of the four of five clubs in the world he might go to.
“Eduardo would love to play for a top club. Madrid are one of those top clubs in the world, so are Barcelona.”
