Manchester United transfer target Tarik Karic has reportedly flown to England to work with the club’s coaches after Red Devils scouts sent a request to his club Zeljeznicar. The 16-year-old goalkeeper will be assessed in Manchester and could potentially sign for the club in the future.

United are desperate to rediscover their glory years after winning 13 Premier League titles under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. And it appears they have one eye of the future as they run the rule over Karic. The teenager, who was born in Sarajevo in 2005, has won seven caps for the Bosnia and Herzegovina under-17s and has been tipped to become a star.

According to Reprezentacija, Karic arrived in Manchester earlier this week and has started training with the club. And Red Devils coaches are set to work with him to assess his potential and qualities.

Karic represented his country at under-18 and under-19 levels in the summer and will be keen to impress United, who currently have goalkeepers David de Gea, Martin Dubravka and Tom Heaton in their first-team squad. And ahead of his link-up with the Red Devils, his club explained how the opportunity came about.

“The head of Manchester United’s scouting service, David Harrison, sent an invitation to FK Zeljeznicar and the talented goalkeeper Tarik Karic to train with Manchester United’s peers,” they wrote in a statement. “FK Zeljeznicar proudly issued permission to Karic to go to Old Trafford.”

United have developed a whole host of overseas talent in the past, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Gerard Pique and Adnan Januzaj progressing through their academy. And they could now be hoping to unearth their next gem in the form of Karic.

United have suffered a mixed start to their Premier League season, with new boss Erik ten Hag coming under enormous pressure after his side were beaten 2-1 by Brighton at Old Trafford on the opening weekend, before being thrashed 4-0 by Brentford in west London the following week.

The north west giants responded by winning four Premier League matches in a row as they got the better of Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal. But they were sent crashing back down to earth after being humbled 6-3 by Manchester City at the start of October. United then beat Everton 2-1 and currently find themselves fifth in the Premier League table.

Ten Hag’s side will also be confident of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League after winning two of their first three matches in the competition. United play their fourth game against Omonia Nikosia on Thursday night.
