Manchester United insiders give positive Anthony Martial injury news ahead of Liverpool

Man United: Pundit discusses Anthony Martial’s ‘ability’

Manchester United insiders think Anthony Martial could be fit for Sunday’s crunch Premier League showdown with Liverpool on Sunday, reports claim. The France international limped out of their 1-0 win over Burnley on Tuesday night. But with the Red Devils looking to open up a six point lead at the top of the table, he could be thrown into the Anfield pit.

United are top of the table, something that seemed unfeasible just months ago.

Solskjaer appeared a dead man walking at one stage, especially after early defeats to Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Arsenal.

But the Norwegian has impressively turned things around, guiding his side to eight wins from their last 11 matches in the competition.

United beat Burnley 1-0 on Tuesday, with Paul Pogba’s deflected volley giving them all three points.

But the Red Devils were given a scare when Martial limped out of the contest late on, appearing to pick up a hamstring injury.

United will need all their A-listers at Anfield as they look to put Liverpool to the sword.

And the Daily Mail there’s a chance Martial will be fit for the contest, with club insiders saying his injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Martial was moving freely after the game and it’s said he will be assessed on Thursday, after players were given Wednesday off.

Should he win his fitness battle, he’s expected to be selected.

The Frenchman has found the net just once in the league this season but remains a crucial asset, having found the net 23 times last term.

He could be deployed up front, in favour of Edinson Cavani.

Or the 25-year-old may be unleashed on the wing, in order to accommodate both Cavani and Marcus Rashford as well.

If he misses out, Solskjaer will likely call upon either Daniel James, Juan Mata or Mason Greenwood to take his place.

And whether Martial is able to make the cut remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, United legend Andy Cole recently opened up on Martial and claimed he had to keep ‘persevering’ in order to get his form back.

“He’s [Martial’s] super talented, he gets in great positions but sometimes his finishing is a bit erratic,” the United legend told Sky Sports.

“He hits the goalkeeper, he doesn’t make the right decisions at times but he has all the talent in the world. I do genuinely believe, like Marcus [Rashford], he’s nowhere near his full potential.

“He just has to keep persevering and hopefully he’ll go on a good run. He’s another one that could get 25 goals, easily.”

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan recently claimed Martial’s lack of goalscoring form could get Solskjaer sacked.

“Man United fans are piling in on me, saying ‘you’ve got this agenda against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer,” he said.

“It’s not an agenda, it’s calling out excellence and saying ‘can you really subscribe to the fact that anytime soon this guy, and this group of players…’ – because some of those players aren’t fit for purpose.

“Anthony Martial will get you sacked if you have him regularly in your side because he’s not good enough and he’s lightweight.

“You look at this and say ‘is he really going to bridge the gap in the cometh the hour, cometh the man moment against [Jurgen] Klopp and against [Pep] Guardiola?’

“He may well do it, he may well beat Klopp next week. I don’t think he will but I don’t take any satisfaction, I don’t sit there wanting this man out of a job.

“I don’t have an agenda, I’m just calling it as I see it. If you want to call it an agenda, that’s peoples perspectives.”
