Manchester United have six undroppables ahead of Liverpool Premier League clash

Man Utd: Solskjaer previews upcoming Liverpool clash

Manchester United know that, if they beat Liverpool, they’ll boost their chances of winning the Premier League title. The Red Devils have been irresistible of late, going 11 matches unbeaten in the top flight to overcome a tricky start to the campaign. So Express Sport will now take a look at six undroppables Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has at his disposal for the match at Anfield.

Harry Maguire

At the start of the season, plenty of questions were being asked of Harry Maguire.

But the England international has silenced his critics with some commanding displays of late.

Sure, Maguire is prone to the odd error. He is human, after all.

Yet United aren’t the same when he doesn’t play. He doesn’t just offer them solidarity at the back – he also offers strong leadership.

Maguire deserves immense credit because, when the spotlight was on, he could have cowered. Instead, he’s risen the fore.

Luke Shaw

For years, the jury has been out on Luke Shaw.

United signed him from Southampton back in 2014, making him the most-expensive left-back at the time, but he struggled with fitness issues.

Jose Mourinho never took to Shaw, with insiders close to the player suggesting this was down to a rejection he dealt the Portuguese during his time at Chelsea.

But Shaw has been galvanised of late, with the arrival of Alex Telles completely transforming him.

Telles is a threat offensively but Shaw has made himself undroppable of late.

Eric Bailly

Solskjaer may very well go with Victor Lindelof for the match against Liverpool at Anfield.

But he shouldn’t, based on Eric Bailly’s recent performances.

Like Shaw, the jury has been out on the Ivory Coast international for some time.

But Bailly has been immense of late, starring in recent victories over Aston Villa and Burnley at Old Trafford and Turf Moor respectively.

Better later than never. And the same can be said for Paul Pogba…

Paul Pogba

Yes, Scott McTominay and Fred are great in the big games.

But, on current form, Solskjaer has to find a way to cram Pogba into his starting XI.

It’s been a difficult season for the France international. He suffered from coronavirus at the start of the campaign, before then struggling to achieve consistency.

Yet the real Pogba is starting to stand tall.

He was brilliant against Burnley, the standout player on the pitch. And when he’s in the mood, United are all the better for it.

Bruno Fernandes

No chance Bruno Fernandes will miss the game against Liverpool.

In fact, there’s probably more of a chance of Roy Hodgson becoming Reds manager again than that happening.

Fernandes is the heartbeat of this United side. While McTominay, Fred and Pogba may provide the blood, he’s the ticker.

Without him, United would be in a sorry mess.

But there’s no point thinking like that. He’s here – and the Red Devils are now genuine title contenders.

Marcus Rashford

He’s been impressive off the pitch, helping hold the government to account over their free school meals scheme.

But Rashford has also been vital on the field of play as well.

The England international provided the assist for Pogba’s winner against Burnley, while managing 14 goals across all competitions.

He’s certainly to start against Liverpool.

And he’ll be hoping to repeat the two-goal heroics of 2018, when he put Jurgen Klopp’s team to the sword.
