Manchester United dismiss 'nonsense' Antony transfer claims
Manchester United have dimissed ‘nonsense’ claims that they have submitted a £51million bid for Ajax winger Antony, with the club focused on signing his team-mate, Lisandro Martinez, instead.
Reports on Wednesday claimed Ajax had turned down a £51m bid for the Brazilian winger and that the Dutch giants were holding out for closer to £69m.
United completed the signing of Tyrell Malacia earlier this week and hope to add Christian Eriksen to their ranks within the next week.
With a deal agreed in principle with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong, United have been able to progress talks for other targets and interest in Anthony is said to have increased since Cristiano Ronaldo made it clear he wants to leave the club.
But the Mail say United have dismissed claims about a £51m bid as ‘nonsense’ and that it is Antony’s team-mate, Martinez, that is the focus.
The 24-year-old has asked to leave Ajax and has requested that they accept a bid from either Arsenal or United.
Both clubs have had bids in the region of £38m turned down for Martinez, with Ajax holding out for around £43m.
If and when Martinez is through the door, Ten Hag can then switch his attention to signing a flexible forward player.
United do hold an interest in Antony but they would not pay the £69m asking price.
