Manchester United have already signed Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho, as well as agreeing a deal to land Real Madrid star Raphael Varane. However, John Murtough isn’t done yet. So Express Sport will now take a look at two players the Red Devils may sign ahead of their Premier League opener with Leeds on August 14.

Kieran Trippier

Manchester United want a new right-back this summer.

And Kieran Trippier is currently their main target, having flourished with Atletico Madrid ever since joining from Tottenham two years ago.

United saw Alex Telles galvanise Luke Shaw 12 months ago, with the Brazil international arriving from Porto.

And they want Trippier to do the same with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his coaching staff have concerns over.

Wan-Bissaka, in their eyes, still has plenty to learn from an offensive point of view.

So that’s why they want Trippier, believing the England international can help drive his compatriot onto even greater things.

As things stand, Atletico don’t want to lose the 30-year-old.

He’s valued by manager Diego Simeone over in Spain, having helped the La Liga giants win the league title last time out.

But Trippier wants to return to the Premier League and, after growing up supporting United as a youngster, he’s got his heart set on a dream move to Old Trafford.

Simeone’s team have already rejected one offer for the veteran, believed to be in the region of £15million as they hope to bank £30m instead.

And with United one of the richest clubs on the planet, they’re expected to come in with another offer before their Premier League campaign gets under way.

Ruben Neves

United also want to sign a new midfielder this summer, regardless of what happens with Paul Pogba’s future.

And Eurosport’s Dean Jones recently claimed a deal for Ruben Neves was ‘reasonably far down the line’, saying: “I just haven’t heard a lot about Saul Niguez personally.

“So it’s hard for me to asses that one. So i’d say because of the information I’ve had, and it all depends on your sources, I know for a fact that they do like Neves, that they’ve been working on it in the background and it’s reasonably far down the line.

“And if they do want to progress with it they can, because the foundations have been laid.

“I don’t know about Saul Niguez, how much weight there really is behind that so it’s difficult for me to judge.

“There’s enough out there to believe there’s some substance to it but I’m sceptical because it’s Saul Niguez, this has happened a few times.”

United are primed to play more attacking next season.

Solskjaer is ready to tinker with his formation, changing to a 4-3-3 instead of a 4-2-3-1 with Fred and Scott McTominay in danger of dropping to the bench.

It’s previously been suggested that Wolves would listen to offers in the region of £30m for Neves, who has flourished for them over the past three years.

So it’s certainly possible United will sign the Portugal international and deploy him alongside Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park.

They definitely need a conductor, having failed to really replace Michael Carrick since his retirement back in 2018.
