Manchester United face off against Liverpool today as a side very much back in form. Thursday’s 6-2 victory over Roma was stirring, showing just how much progress they’ve made under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. So Express Sport will now take a look at four players who have been reborn in recent times.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

United star Luke Shaw has, rightly, been getting praise for his performances at left-back this season.

But, on the opposite flank, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has come on considerably.

The former Crystal Palace star has improved going forward, terrorising Roma by constantly going at them in midweek.

Surely, England boss Gareth Southgate is contemplating picking him for the upcoming European Championships.

He’s been arguably the most consistent right-back in the Premier League this season, an achievement that isn’t to be taken lightly.

Paul Pogba

It’s easy to criticise Paul Pogba if you’re a sceptic.

With his happy and bubbly personality, and dancing ability, he certainly attracts a considerable amount of negativity.

But nobody can criticise Pogba when he’s in this sort of form.

The France international has been sensational of late, lighting up Old Trafford in victories over AC Milan, Tottenham and Roma.

If he can keep this up, a new contract will surely reckon.

Edinson Cavani

It would be a crying shame if Edinson Cavani were to leave United this summer.

He’s a gladiator at the tip of Solskjaer’s attack and deserves to play in front of Old Trafford when it’s full, instead of empty.

With five goals in his last five games, the 34-year-old is coming right at the perfect time.

He’s expected to start against Liverpool on Sunday, especially after his heroics against Roma.

And Cavani looks undroppable these days, finally living up to his huge reputation and winning fans round in the process.

Mason Greenwood

It’s been a difficult campaign for Mason Greenwood at times.

The England international was sent home from international duty in disgrace at the beginning of the season after breaching coronavirus rules in Iceland.

But, with five goals in his last eight matches, Greenwood is another reborn star in Solskjaer’s squad.

The Norwegian was visibly thrilled by his goal against Roma on Thursday, punching the air in jubilation.

And if Greenwood carries on at this rate he’ll soon be a regular in the side, if he isn’t already.

Solskjaer’s admission

Speaking before the match on Friday, Solskjaer insisted United would be fully focused on football – despite protests over the Glazers’ handling of the club set to commence before kick off.

“It’s important that the fans’ views are listened to and that we communicate better,” he said.

“My job is to focus on the football side and that we have the best possible team. I’ve been backed and had great support from the club and the owners and I’m sure I’ll get the backing again to go one step further.

“I’m so happy that all the clubs agreed this shouldn’t be the way of moving forward.

“When the protests are on, it is important they go in a good fashion and that we keep it peaceful.

“The players are focused on the game and nothing else. They have handled difficult situations before. It was a strange week before the Leeds game after the Super League announcement.

“But I’m not worried one second that our mind is not on the football. As you saw in the [Europa League] semi, the players are fully focused on performing.”
