Man Utd’s strange lewd goal caption baffles fans before being hastily deleted

Manchester United have been forced to delete a highlight video that included a bizarre caption alongside a video of Raphael Varane's header against Wolves.

The Frenchman nodded home a winning goal during their controversial Premier League triumph and it was shared across their various official social media accounts which service their fans around the world.

One of those accounts, @ManUtd_ID, which gives fans updates in Indonesian and has over one million followers including Rio Ferdinand, went a tad rogue.

Their caption of the video read: "Then I hit it from the back, got it clappin." At the time it was deleted, the post had more than 700 reposts, 200 quotes and had been viewed 325,000 times across the world.

The words, which appears to be song lyrics, makes a sexually explicit reference despite their fanbase online being of all ages.

One comment read: "I beg your pardon?" A second added: "Bro that caption is wild…" A third said: "How dare you."

The post remained live for hours before being removed, with the main account going for the lest risqué caption of: "Our first goal of 2023/24!"

United started their season with three points thanks to the header from Aaron Wan-Bissaka's lofted pass, with Wolves left furious.

Andre Onana somehow escaped giving away a second-half penalty. The debutant slammed into Sasa Kalajdzic while nowhere near the ball, with Gary O'Neil saying he later spoke to elite referees manager Jon Moss.

"Jon Moss said it was a blatant penalty and should have been given – fair play to him, he apologised," said O'Neil.

"I have spent a lot of time with him today to understand the new guidelines, trying not to get myself booked in the first game, which I have failed in.

"But fair play to Jon for coming out and saying it was a clear and obvious error – he couldn't believe the on-field referee didn't give it and can't believe VAR didn't intervene.

"It probably made me feel worse, actually, because you know you are right. I feel worse about leaving with nothing. Live, I was told they didn't think it was a clear and obvious error."

Following that update, the officials involved in the error have been removed from Premier League fixtures booked in for next weekend.
