Man Utd’s bid to sign Eduardo Camavinga boosted by Lionel Messi’s PSG move

Lionel Messi’s move to PSG has given Manchester United a boost in their chase for Eduardo Camavinga.

The Rennes teenager is eager to seal a move to the French capital, but things have become ‘more complicated’ because of Messi’s availability after his Barcelona release.

According to French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, Camavinga’s agent Jonathan Barnett is keen to push his client towards a move to Old Trafford, but the player’s position is unclear, with PSG remaining his preferred location.

Since making his debut in 2019, he has racked up over 80 appearances for Rennes, impressing multiple clubs across Europe.

Throughout the course of last season, he played 39 times, scoring one and assisting three, in all competitions.

The 18-year-old’s impressive displays has earned him three senior caps for France, with his first appearance coming in 2020.

Camavinga has less than one year remaining on his current contract, meaning he could be available for a cut down price.

A figure in the region of £25.7million is the reported fee Rennes would sell him for, with the club not wanting to risk losing him on a free next summer.

United have been linked with a host of midfielders throughout this window, as they look to strengthen in the centre of the park.

Declan Rice and Ruben Neves are among the players who are currently on their radar.

So far, no talks have taken place between Rennes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, with a move seemingly unlikely at this moment, despite PSG no longer looking like a possible destination.

The French giants have offered free agent Messi a bumper two-year contract, with the deal set to be agreed in the next week.

Meanwhile, Camavinga’s future remains less certain and could very well remain where he is this summer, which could prompt a huge race for his signature in under 12 months’ time.
