Man Utd warned they won’t be instant ‘title frontrunners’ under Erik ten Hag
Manchester United have been warned they shouldn't expect instant success from Erik ten Hag, who was announced as United's latest boss on Thursday.
Former Manchester City star Joleon Lescott has suggested that United aren't current 'frontrunners' for the title. However, he said Red Devils fans should wait for success, as a time will come when both City and Liverpool will be in a similar situation.
United will be hoping that the Dutchman can replicate his success with Ajax at Old Trafford. And chiefs at the Red Devils admitted on Thursday they were impressed with Ten Hag's long-term plan for the club.
“Manchester United are in a transition period and that sometimes means accepting you aren’t going to be one of the frontrunners for titles," Lescott told LiveScore.
“It’s a plan that must stretch beyond a couple of transfer windows, a couple of seasons. If they make steady progress, a time will come when Liverpool and Manchester City both bring in new bosses — and that’s when United can truly go and compete for the title again.”
