Manchester United are undecided over which right-back to sign amid interest in five players, according to reports. Erik ten Hag wants somebody to provide competition for Diogo Dalot, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka deemed surplus to requirements. And this information comes at a time where the Red Devils are confident of keeping both Dalot and Marcus Rashford, with the duo’s deals due to expire at the end of the season.

Plenty has gone right at Manchester United since the appointment of Ten Hag as manager.

And both Dalot and Rashford have both regained their mojo under the Dutchman, becoming two of the first names on the Dutchman’s team sheet in the process.

According to 90min, confidence is building that both will extend their stays at the club.

The duo’s respective deals are due to expire at the end of the campaign, meaning they’re free to negotiate with European clubs in the New Year.

But United believe they’ll both end up staying, especially given their fine form under Ten Hag.

Man Utd transfers: Plans for next three signings are damning on Solskjaer

Rashford has scored seven goals this term, more than any other player at the club, and has looked rejuvenated after struggling under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick last term.

And Dalot is the best pick at right-back these days, with Ten Hag hinting after Sunday’s 1-0 win over West Ham that Wan-Bissaka would be free to go.

The report does say, however, that United intend on signing a new defender when the transfer window reopens.

But they’re undecided over who to go after, with Max Aarons the only player strutting his stuff in England who is under consideration.

The right-back has long been consistent for Norwich and, back in the summer, was tipped to move to Old Trafford in a swap deal that would have seen Ethan Laird head in the opposite direction.

Ultimately, that didn’t happen. But United are still keen and it’s possible they’ll make their move when the transfer window reopens in January.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs, Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and Celtic’s Josip Juranovic are also potential options.

But it’s said United are hesitating and, right now, don’t know who to pick.

Regarding Dalot, meanwhile, Ten Hag has hailed the Portugal international for his recent fine form – insisting he’s developing well under his guidance.

“I hope he keeps progressing, so not only sticking to this level,” he said ahead of tonight’s Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

“Our approach, our philosophy is that good is not good enough. We have to do better.

“We’re happy with the development and the performances of Diogo so it’s quite clear. But I know that every club in the top elite clubs need competition and I think we can replace him, with Victor Lindelof, with Tyrell Malacia and luckily also Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back in the squad.

“So we have replacements but it’s clear, it’s heavy when you have to play every game but physically he’s got a really good profile and I’m sure he will keep going and he will keep developing.

“That is what we demand and I am confident he will do that.”

Dalot himself has insisted he’s happy at United – but was coy on the possibility on a new deal when recently quizzed on the matter.

“I mean, I just think this is not worth thinking about too much at this time,” he said.

“We are in the process of where we think we have to improve our game as a team and focus on the club.

“Individuals will have to come [secondary] at this time and there is also a World Cup coming. I don’t think that it is the time to think about this [new contract].”

He added: “I’m just happy that I’m helping this club. I love to play for this club, and I think that I show that every single time I step onto Old Trafford and every time I wear this badge.

“This is the most important for me [right now].”
