Manchester United transfer target Jeremie Frimpong broke down in tears after suffering an ankle injury in Holland training that could wreck his World Cup dream. The 21-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star is yet to feature at the tournament so far in Qatar but now his hopes of making an appearance have been dealt a monumental blow following the fitness problem that evidently caused the right-back some pain.
Those who did not feature for Holland on Tuesday in their Group A finale win over Qatar have been completing some light fitness work this morning in Doha.
Frimpong was among the players involved in the training session before he collapsed to the turf holding his ankle.
While it’s not clear exactly what caused the injury, Frimpong’s visual distress would suggest he could now be set for a spell on the sidelines.
The former Manchester City youth team defender was able to walk off the training pitch following the issue, which will now be assessed by Holland’s medical staff.

But the report will be of interest to United in particular as they weigh up a January transfer swoop for the Leverkusen man, who has impressed their scouts.
Erik ten Hag is open to the idea of signing another right-back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka expected to depart Old Trafford.
The £50million 2019 summer signing has barely featured this season as Diogo Dalot continues to go from strength to strength.
With Dalot expected to sign a new contract, Wan-Bissaka could finally receive the green light to move onto a new challenge after West Ham and Crystal Palace tried to sign him late in the summer transfer window.

United have been heavily scouting him in the Bundesliga this season and so far, it’s believed the Red Devils are impressed.
The dynamic wing-back has five goals and three assists in all competitions this season.
All five of his goals have come in 15 Bundesliga outings – meaning he is averaging a goal every three matches in the German top-flight this season despite Leverkusen’s struggles.
The club’s sporting director Simon Rolfes has been full of praise for his £11m signing, stating in recent months: “He’s technically strong, incredibly fast and is an attack-minded player. He has huge potential.”
United are expected to make several changes to their squad in the January market with Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven also a target for the Old Trafford board.
Ten Hag is believed to have reopened dialogue with the dangerous attacker, who has netted in each of Netherlands’ three World Cup games so far.
Gakpo held talks with Ten Hag and United earlier this summer before eventually staying with PSV.
