Man Utd transfer round-up as Barcelona target flop, Red Devils to rival Chelsea

Manchester United are back in business with the club top of the Premier League once again and targeting silverware.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's summer recruits are beginning to bed in nicely with Amad Diallo the latest to join up with the first-team following his switch from Atalanta.

And the cogs keep turning behind the scenes as United look to trim down their squad as well as pinpointing further targets.

A number of senior stars are facing an impending exit with United keen to recoup some cash to fund their next moves in the market.

With all that in mind here are the latest transfer rumours from around Old Trafford.

Scholes identifies "outstanding" January signing

Paul Scholes urged United to sign Leicester star Wesley Fofana to strengthen their bid for the Premier League title.

The Old Trafford legend thinks Solskjaer needs to find a better partner for Harry Maguire in defence, with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly not deemed up to the job.

"If I was Ole and could sign a defender this month, I’d go for Wesley Fofana at Leicester,” Scholes told ESPN.

“He’s only 20, but he has been outstanding and he has the potential to be anything he wants to be.

"United have done okay at the back this season, but they have been exposed when playing against the big teams and that’s another problem they need to solve."

Red Devils to rival Chelsea for £70m ace

United are reportedly ready to rival Chelsea for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice next summer.

Rice has most commonly been linked with a return to the Blues, but ESPN claim that Solskjaer has put the England international on his list of several potential midfield options to pursue in the summer.

It is thought that Rice will cost around £70m, so United may need to sell some talent before making an approach for the 22-year-old.

The future of Paul Pogba will also be pivotal, both in terms of available funds and squad space, with the Frenchman returning to form in recent weeks.

Barcelona target exiled star

Barcelona are believed to be interested in signing exiled full-back Diogo Dalot to resolve their issues at right-back.

Dalot is currently on loan at AC Milan, but Rossoneri chiefs Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are in no rush to make the move permanent, according to Calciomercato.

Seeking an opening, Barcelona are reportedly willing to offer up to £10m for Dalot, which could be enough to persuade Ed Woodward to sell the Portuguese, given his struggles in England.

Barca are understood to be looking for a new right-back with Sergino Dest struggling to bed in following his move from Ajax, the injury to Sergi Roberto and youngster Oscar Mingueza’s lack of experience.
