Sergio Ramos’ contract with Real Madrid is due to expire at the end of the season and he is yet to agree a new deal with the La Liga giants. Ramos is Real’s captain and he is into his 16th season at the Bernabeu.

Manager Zinedine Zidane is keen to keep hold of the 34-year-old, saying back in November: “I have no doubt that he will stay.

“He is our leader and of course we love him forever.”

However, three months on from Zidane’s insistence that Ramos would put pen to paper on a new contract, the defender’s future remains up in the air.

Both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for Ramos if he does leave Real when his deal expires and they look set to find out the player’s decision by the end of the month.

According to a report from Spanish publication Marca, a decision will be made on the player’s future before the end of March.

The report claims that Real have offered Ramos a one-year extension with the option of a further year.

That offer will expire before the end of the month, with the club needing to know about Ramos’ future so they can plan effectively for the upcoming transfer window.

Real Madrid are the favourites to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba on a free when the 28-year-old leaves the Bundesliga giants.

Alaba confirmed last month that he would not be signing a new contract with Bayern, saying: “I have decided to do something new.

“It wasn’t an easy decision. I have not yet made the decision where to go.

“It’s no secret that my agent is negotiating with other clubs.

“I am looking for a new challenge to develop myself as a person on and off the pitch.

“Where can I continue to play football successfully? That will certainly be important in my decision.

“[Money] wasn’t a factor for me. A lot was interpreted from the outside.

“I couldn’t say much from my side because we had a lot of games. It’s a difficult phase with communication. My management is in talks, I get information and don’t worry.”
