Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will oversee his side’s Premier League showdown with Newcastle on Sunday. The Red Devils face Steve Bruce’s side seeking a return to winning ways in the top flight. So Express Sport will now take a look at how they should line up for the showdown at Old Trafford.

Goalkeeper: De Gea

United have seen Dean Henderson shine of late.

However, Solskjaer should start David De Gea against Newcastle – having praised the Spain international in midweek.

“Of course Dean is in with a shout,” said Solskjaer. “We’ll pick a team Saturday and Dean was very solid against Sociedad.

“He had good kicking, he should have had an assist for Marcus Rashford, which is another thing we’ve worked on.

“He was clean in his handling, clean with his short passes, produced a good performance and is maturing all the time.

“But I also have a very, very good goalkeeper in David and he saved us against West Brom, so I can’t say to you now [who will start].”

Defence: Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw

United are keen to manage Eric Bailly’s game time given the Ivory Coast international’s horrendous record when it comes to injuries.

So, with that the case, Victor Lindelof could be reinstated.

United won’t drop Harry Maguire anytime soon, so he’s likely to get the nod at the back as well.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is vital for the Red Devils and the way they play and, with little competition, is also primed to start.

And Luke Shaw should come in for Alex Telles at left-back.

Midfield: Fred, Matic, Fernandes

Scott McTominay picked up a knock in the 4-0 win over Real Sociedad and is a slight doubt to start the match against Newcastle.

And with the games coming thick and fast, and Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek also injured, Nemanja Matic could start.

Alongside him is likely to be Fred, who has impressed when called upon this season.

And, in the No 10 position, Bruno Fernandes is also likely to get the nod.

He’s been in remarkable form this term, scoring 21 times across all competitions, and is simply too crucial to be left out.

Attack: Greenwood, Martial, Rashford

United star Daniel James could find himself back on the bench against Newcastle, despite his recent improvement in form.

And coming it at his expense may be Anthony Martial.

The France international could see Newcastle as the ideal chance to get his goal tally up, having found the net just four times in the Premier League this term.

On the right should be Mason Greenwood.

And, on the left, Marcus Rashford – who has found the net 17 times this term.

Newcastle team news

Newcastle boss Bruce has confirmed Karl Darlow will keep his place in goal, despite Martin Dubravka impressing.

“Martin Dubravka has been very professional but that doesn’t mean he’s happy and I wouldn’t expect him to be,” said the Magpies manager.

“I’ve stayed with Karl because I think he deserves it.”

He then added: “Thankfully, we’ve not got any new injuries ahead of the weekend. Federico Fernandez trained yesterday and the day before but Sunday will be too soon for him.

“Fabian Schar has had his operation and Callum Wilson’s is a muscle injury so we have to be patient with him. The one that looks better is Javier Manquillo. He twisted his ankle badly but has responded well to his treatment.”
