Man Utd target Jude Bellingham and Kalvin Phillips in Liverpool transfer hijack

Manchester United are reportedly targeting moves for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Bellingham, 18, looks set for a Premier League move after emerging as one of the brightest talents in world football.

Phillips also continues been linked with a move elsewhere following an impressive first season in the Premier League with Leeds during the previous campaign.

And according to ESPN, Ralf Rangnick highlighted United’s midfield as an area of weakness in his interview with the club’s hierarchy before his arrival as interim boss at Old Trafford.

The same outlet say Rangnick is said to have suggested potential signings and identified Bellingham and Phillips as potential midfield targets.

But United will reportedly have to fight off stiff competition from rivals Liverpool if they are to land either of the two highly-rated midfielders.

The Mirror say Liverpool are willing to pay £90million to lure the England midfielder away from the German giants.

Such a fee would eclipse Liverpool’s current transfer record, currently held by Virgil van Dijk after his £75m arrival from Southampton in January 2017.

Meanwhile, The Sun claim Phillips has a preference to join Liverpool due to the old rivalry between Leeds and The Red Devils.

However, it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old would join United if Liverpool don’t end up making a move for the defensive midfielder.

United’s current defensive midfield options are Fred, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, and Donny van de Beek.

Fred and McTominay were the chosen starters for Rangnick’s first game in charge against Crystal Palace last Sunday.

Van de Beek was handed a starting berth in the recent game against Swiss champions Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday, but the Dutchman has, on the whole, scarcely been given a chance to showcase his abilities at Old Trafford.
