Manchester United have provided an update on Victor Lindelof’s health following a worrying incident involving the defender against Norwich. The 27-year-old’s wife has also described the ‘scary’ moments after Lindelof was seen holding his chest before being withdrawn during the 1-0 win.
Lindelof did not appear to make contact with any Norwich players before suffering the problem.
Interim head coach Ralf Rangnick confirmed afterwards that the player’s heart rate had been abnormally high.
“He doesn’t remember how it happened,” Rangnick told the club’s media channels.
“I suppose he had a collision with another player and couldn’t breathe. He had problems to breathe and his heart rate was higher than normal so we had to replace him.
“We’ve had him checked and had some examinations done by the doctor. And, so far, everything seems to be okay but he still seems a little bit shocked.”
Lindelof’s wife, Maja, has described the anxious moments when she was unable to contact the centre-back.
She revealed that Lindelof had been using a heart monitor since returning home and will undergo further tests.
“It was a scary match to watch and Victor was very [worried] afterwards,” she wrote on her blog.
“Yesterday [Sunday] he did a lot of tests and he has had a heart monitor on for two days to make sure everything is okay.
“[It was] incredibly uncomfortable, especially when I could not get hold of him… it was a long [wait] before I got hold of someone on the team who updated me.
“Everything seems to be okay, as luck would have it, and we are waiting for answers to the final tests that will end tomorrow.”
And now, United, whose Premier League visit to Brentford on Tuesday has been cancelled due to a coronavirus outbreak, have released a statement confirming that Lindelof has ‘recovered well’ from the scare.
“Victor is currently undergoing a series of precautionary investigations,” the club said in a statement on Tuesday.
“However, he has recovered well from the episode he experienced in the match against Norwich.

Man Utd clash against Brentford postponed after Covid outbreak
“All indications are that this is not linked to any COVID outbreak within the club.”
An outbreak of coronavirus has forced United to shut down their first-team operations while the trip to Brentford has been pushed back.
Lindelof’s health worry is not believed to be linked to the virus.
United had requested that the match be rearranged after several players and staff returned positive lateral flow test results.
