Manchester United star Millie Turner criticised Adidas on social media after the kit manufacturing giant referred to her by the wrong name when revealing the team's new kit.

United released their new kit for the 2021-22 season on Thursday, with the retro-inspired shirt set to be donned by both the men's and women's team for next season.

Adidas helped launch the shirt, which is partly based on their kits from the past, with images of players from both the men's and women's team.

However, they ended up with egg on their faces after referring to Turner by the wrong name.

Adidas posted the image of Turner but referred to her as Amy Turner, who left the club earlier this year to join Orlando Pride.

Turner posted: "Considering I’ve been at Manchester United for 3 years and an adidas athlete for 2… You’d like to think adidas would get my name right."

That prompted Adidas to quickly take the images down and re-upload them with the correct name.

Turner has been at United since 2018 and has played for England Under-23.

But that didn't stop Adidas from calling her by the wrong name, leading to them to respond and offer to send out free shirts to some of her fans.

The Adidas account replied saying: "Millie, we messed up and we’re gutted.

"You're part of the adidas family and we want to make amends. Let’s get some new shirts out to your biggest fans. Let us know who and we’ll deliver."

But Amy Turner, who left United last month for National Women's Soccer League side Orlando Pride, called on the company to do better.

She wrote: "NeVeR FoRgEt WhErE yOu CaMe FrOm”. We must do better!"

That tweet was made in reference to the Adidas tagline of 'Never Forget Where You Came From', which was used to sell the new replica shirt.
