Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes sends warning to Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane
Bruno Fernandes has warned Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane they may have little time to settle in at Manchester United and will be expected to hit the ground running just as he did, with the new Premier League campaign kicking off in just over a weeks’ time.
The Red Devils brought an end to one of the longest running transfer sagas of recent times to capture Jadon Sancho, 21, wrapping up a £73million agreement with Borussia Dortmund after missing out on the England winger last summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been desperate to add quality to the right side of his attack for the last 18 months and will have breathed a sigh of relief as Sancho finally put pen to paper on a five-year contract with United.
The next priority for United and Solskjaer was to bring in a centre-back with proven pedigree to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence and they appear to have done just that as Varane, 28, to finalise a move to Old Trafford.

The French World Cup winner will complete a switch from Real Madrid, subject to signing a contract and completing a medical, and many already are tipping the club to be a genuine force in this year’s title race alongside Manchester City after falling away last term.
Fernandes knows exactly what it takes to deal with expectations and make an immediate impact following a high-profile move to United, notching up 18 goals and 12 assists across a phenomenal first full season in the north west.
The Portuguese is confident both Sancho and Varane will enjoy similar success but has told the incoming duo to get ready to quickly adapt to the pressures that come with playing for a team of United’s stature.
Asked if joining in the summer makes it easier to settle in, Fernandes – who arrived in January – told MUTV: ‘That’s the problem because they will arrive almost at the same time I did in terms of I trained two days and played straightaway!
‘I think it’s always difficult to change country and change club, it doesn’t matter when you come.
‘I was also lucky to play one game against Wolves and then we had five days off [matches] and one week in Marbella [for the winter training camp in 2020] and it was nice time to meet the lads and get to know them, so I was lucky at the same time.
‘It’s also difficult to come to a new club, but at the same time you come to a big club and you are excited to play and being part of the team is always big so I don’t think there are many changes from joining in January to July.’
Asked whether players get as excited as supporters by new signings, Fernandes replied: ‘Of course – when you see the names that are coming and what they have done in the last few seasons.
‘We are really happy with everyone that is coming in and of course to keep the lads who have been here the last few seasons is important because you have to grow up and at the same time you have to keep the same players to know we are doing better and better.
‘With this team, we know we can do better, but adding some players to the team helps the team be better.’
Fernandes will be on hand to help his new team-mates settle in and feel like ‘family’ as United’s squad strive to pull together and close the gap between themselves and City at the top of English football.
‘We always want to help the ones who come into the club,’ the ex-Sporting captain added.
‘Anyone who comes into the club to be part of the group will get help from everyone because as we always say it’s like a family here.
‘We are together for a long, long time and the season will be long and we hope it will be as long as possible so we can win some trophies and at the same time we want to help everyone to be settled in the team.
‘That’s really important as I said before, we want this club and this group to be like a family and we will do everything to do that.’
There will be 55,000 supporters inside Old Trafford on Saturday as United take on Everton in the final match of their pre-season schedule.
The Red Devils kick off the new campaign against arch-rivals Leeds United a week later in what promises to be an exciting occasion at the Theatre of Dreams.
