Man Utd set timeline for Andre Onana transfer as Erik ten Hag ‘in a hurry’
Man Utd fans protest outside Old Trafford
Manchester United are hoping to finalise the signing of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana by the end of this week, according to reports. The Red Devils are said to be keen on improving their last line of defence this summer and have identified Onana as a priority target, with Erik ten Hag eager to bring the Cameroon international to Old Trafford this summer.
United are thought to be planning ahead in case David de Gea ends up leaving the club, with the Spaniard yet to extend his contract despite being just days away from officially becoming a free agent. The situation has led the Red Devils to intensify their pursuit of Onana, who they are hoping to sign by the start of next week at the latest, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
It is claimed that Ten Hag is pushing for a deal to be wrapped up over the next few days and would ideally like the move to be secured before United’s players return for pre-season training in the first week of July. Club chiefs are now said to be preparing their first official bid for Onana, who is claimed to be valued at around £43million by Inter as things stand.
Personal terms are not expected to be a problem for United, who are believed to be willing to double the salary that Onana is currently earning at the San Siro. The only stumbling block is the agreement at club level over a transfer fee, but it seems as though United are optimistic that a deal can be reached in the near future.

United are not the only ones in a hurry to finalise the proposed move, with Onana also reportedly keen for his future to be decided as quickly as possible. It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will be able to wrap up proceedings over the coming days, although everything suggests that it will not be an issue for United to make significant progress in talks with Inter before the end of this week.
Onana is known to be comfortable playing the ball out from the back with his feet, which is an area that De Gea has struggled in over the last few years at United. The Inter stopper also worked alongside Ten Hag during their time together at Ajax and would seemingly be eager to reunite with his former boss at Old Trafford this summer, but only time will tell if a deal can be done before pre-season training begins next month.

Meanwhile, there appears to be an expectation at Inter that Onana will move on at some point over the next few weeks, with former Nerazzurri stopper Sebastian Frey having reluctantly accepted that the 27-year-old could be poised to leave after just one year at the San Siro.
“Football today is different than it was in my generation,” Frey recently told Goal. “Inter could afford to keep a player regardless of the size of an offer that they received. Now, there are other needs to think about.
“But if it just depended on me, I would keep him. It’s difficult to find a great goalkeeper. If they want to win trophies, then they should keep him. Unfortunately, I think they’ll let him leave.”
